Ubisoft's new take on a war game set during you guessed it World War One delivers an amazing 2D environment with a truly epic soundtrack perfect for every scene. Although the game calls itself a puzzle adventure the puzzles are very simple with a hint system should you get stuck and for me this is the worst thing about an otherwise brilliant game.

You begin with a cinematic which gives a brief history on what is going on in the war, the date and a story opener which sets the scene perfectly for a tale of friendship, hardship and the rare moments in a war when you see not enemies but allies forced to fight for the other side.

As you progress you get the opportunity to read about key moments that took place in the war without having it forced upon you, which means you can play the game by just working through the puzzles although I feel you would be missing out on one of the best features.

With a load of different characters to grow attached too and play (including a dog) you will be playing for hours and the game will feel fresh. Ubisoft also manage to keep the puzzles feel rewarding time after time which is never easy in this kind of game.

If you enjoy a good story then at £11.99 it is worth every penny however for gamers who get fulfilment from completing tricky levels and puzzles then I would stay away from valiant hearts: the Great War.

Out now on all platforms.
